Jet/Tony - Hully Gully - Question

Postby donna plasky » 28 Oct 2012, 22:53

Hi, everybody. I understand that this video of Jet and Tony miming to "Hully Gully" is actually from a movie ("Just For Fun", I think it was called). In actuality, is Jet singing the entire lead vocals? Or are Jet and Tony alternating on the lead vocals, as portrayed the video? I always thought it was only Jet, but seeing the video has confused me a bit.

Also, does anybody know if Jet ever spoke about this performance? You know how Jet has said, "I don't do smilies" and "Boy bands, I hate 'em" and all that? Did he ever joke that he can't believe his agent talked him into doing this?

I think Jet and Tony look and sound great in the video. I just can't help but wonder if Jet ever said something hilarious about it.

Thank you kindly,
Donna

This is the first time I've seen tony and jet do this, I'd only previously heard it on a Rapiers album where Jet sang the song in its entirety thankd for posting

Isn't this clip from "Thank Your Lucky Stars" ???

I vividly remember them doing Diamonds and Footstomp one Saturday in January 1963 just when it was released and during Footstomp it looked exactly as this clip does, i.e. with them standing and miming the same and with the anonymous girl drummer.

The Footstomp TYLS clip turns up on YouTube sometimes so it does exist but I have yet to see the Diamonds clip - does that exist anywhere, if so can someone post a link to it.

No It's definitely from the film Just for Fun. Jet sings it all. Tony was just miming

Good to be reminded of Jet's Man From Nowhere (composed by the late Clive Westlake) in the darkened cellar. It's a great sound, albeit mimed, of course, in a moody setting, but heavens knows who the other individuals are!

CF another thread a short time ago - remember....Jet originally wanted to title "Man From Nowhere" (the release of which was shelved in favour of "Diamonds") - "Verge Of World War III" at the height of the Cuban Missile Crisis just over 50 yrs ago!

Rob  ;)

Yes, the 50th anniversary of its recording was on 20th October, first issued on the Just For Fun soundtrack album (Decca LK 4524) in 1963.

I have often wondered about the girl drummer I beleive that her first name was Tina and did she play the drums on the record? .Girl drummers were rare in those days and this was two years before Honey Lantree of The Honeycombs .

There are various suggestions on the YouTube post of the video that it could have been Honey Lantree herself or actress, Valerie Leon!
