I expect that the record company had to pay a royalty for the use of the cover shot.

Pardon my ignorance but which tracks are the "rare" South African" ones?
Love the cover photo. If that is representative of the instruments they were actually using - Framus bass, Grimshaw for Bruce - then Hank must be holding that famous Fiesta RED Strat. It don't look too pinky to me.
Cheers

Tracks 44 to 47. Not rare. Been released before on the EP collections.

Jasmine is a respected "reissue" company that dig up all sorts of obscure (and not so obscure) tracks & presents them for sale at a "budget" price

The Shads one posted here has of course previously been released (different sleeve photo's) in this format

Worth a look through the catalogue

What about sound mixes on this double CD? My uncle was on holiday in England about a month ago and he came across the 3 CD set "Cliff Meets The Shadows", which he bought for me for GBP 1,00. A very nice present. I have listened to it and found the sound quality quite good, but almost all tracks have its sound mix corrupted. The sound mixes are mostly mono, but the source for almost all tracks are the stereo mixes, turned into contrived mono. I don't think this is a very nice trend.

These recordings were all made in mono in the first place, so no re-mixing was or remains possible.

My copy arrived today. It was pretty much as expected.

The picture looks as if it has been tinted from a black & white photograph so that is why the famous Strat looks red instead of pink.
The fretboard looks worn already in the picture and the guitar was new?

Looks like this photo was taken in late 1959, after Hank got the Strat ordered by Cliff, and before early 1960 when Bruce got his Jazzmaster and Jet his Precision Bass.
