Tony Hicks in criminally underrated, his guitar playing in the 60's (and beyond) was as good as anyone else around.
Listen to his acoustic solo on 'Too young to be married' (from 'Confessions of the mind' album) it never fails to amaze me, it's an awesome solo.
Plus, my mum used to fancy him in the 60's! :D

Yes, I think so...although it was Allan Clarke who played the great intro to "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress". Tony Hicks sold Hank his sunburst Strat in the mid-80s and subsequently interviewed him for Guitarist magazine.

ecca,

I am a migrant to Australia- I was born and raised in London- still have a good ear for British accents! Tony is a Nelson lad apparently.

He did also play the lead at the intro of Air That I Breathe- it was mentioned in the Hollies documentary- which I bought here on DVD in Oz yesterday and watched last night here- a few hours before it was shown on UK TV...strange coincidence..

Then again I also bought Brubeck's Time Out LP on CD at the same time as the DVD and he just died...very strange coincidence..

I also bought an ABBA DVD- hope they are all OK..

Just to be on the safe side, you are hereby banned from buying a Secrets CD.

When I saw them in 1964 at a one nighter package show at the local Granada, he was playing his favourite customised "Hollies" Epiphone Texan.

It was on Sky arts prog 129 last night, it may be on again tonight

This will be available on Sky's "On Demand" until early January. :D

What do you mean you haven't got Sky?

It's not too late. Tell me if you're going to install it and I'll split the Marks and Spencers vouchers with you.

Cheers, Alan.

Tony Hicks is said to be one of the few people who managed to get a decent sound out of a Varitone.

Shouldn't sing his praises too highly on here though, as I seem to remember reading somewhere that he never plays a Strat as he hates them!

I saw a German (I think) prog on Sky (Beat Beat Beat), Hollies playing live through Echolette amps and Tony played a 12 string Vox Phantom (coffin) on Stop-stop-stop. Or was i dreaming !!
