Maton guitars here in Australia made the acoustic Bindarra bass from 1967-1972. (Check

Extra large, deep jumbo body, with full scale bass neck- either acoustic or with a pickup. They later made a short scale model too.
That is the earliest roundhole flat top bodied type acoustic bass guitar that I've ever seen, and that I'm aware of, although Ernie Ball made a similar bass in the US called the Earthwood sometime back then....
Gibson of course made f-hole archtop electric bass guitars and electric standup basses well before WW2- there is a music museum in Seattle Washington USA with a bunch of such electric bass guitars made in the late 1930's - long before Leo's Fender Precision... including a Vox Phantom style SOLID body bass made by an amplifier firm called Audiovox in about 1940!
Nothing new under the sun folks!
