NOKIE EDWARDS (VENTURES)

Postby anniv 63 » 23 Oct 2012, 11:06

During his recent tour of Japan, Nokie has been hospitalised due to a health
problem, more information available on his website
www.nokieedwards.com/
I am sure members and visitors of the Community will wish him a speedy recovery
and our best wishes.
Some of us were lucky enough to see and meet him ten years ago this month at
the Lakeside Complex when he performed an excellent set backed by the Dutch
Ventures Tribute Band Adventure.
Nokie kindly gave his time to speak to everyone, sign photos etc.
A true gentleman.

Sorry to hear this. As Mike said, some of us were fortunate to spend time with Nokie when he appeared at Lakeside. A gentleman and a fine picker.

I hope Nokie will recover soon. Of the original Ventures, only Don Wilson and Nokie are still with us. The first drummer Howie Johnson (with the group from 1960 to 1962) died in 1988, the longest serving drummer Mel Taylor (with the group from 1962/1963 to 1972 and 1979 to 1996) died in 1996 and lead guitarist/bass guitarist Bob Bogle, the founder together with Don Wilson, died in 2009. The drummer who played drums on the original 1960 recording of "Walk Don't Run" and only on that track, was Skip Moore, who is also no longer with us.

Sad news that another great guitarist is unwell and in hospital, I wish him a speedy recovery.
I was also one of the fortunate ones who met and spoke at length with him at Lakeside, and have to admit he blew me away with his rendition of 'Orange Blossom Special' . up until that time I'd never seen it played 'live' at the speed he did it . Fantastic!! .... Get well soon Nokie.
