From hearing one of the Shads' own TV AC30/4 amps and being able compare it with an AC15, I'd say it was the 30/4 due to the bass frequiencies I hear.

But let's keep the mystique. To be honest, it doesn't matter whether it was the AC15 or the AC30/4. We all know it was an EF86 equipped amp. We'll never know for certain. None of us were there. Let's just listen and do our best to copy, if that's what we want to do. We'd probably love to replicate it fully, but we don't have Hank's fingers, so short of a DNA infusion (nod to Greg ;) ), we ain't gonna do it. Let's just have fun in our quest. And, let's face it, if we did succeed, what would we do with our time afterwards? :D :|

Hi Paul, just noticed that alongside the Roland RE-201 you've tagged "probably not used by The Shadows". I can confirm that it was used (late 70's I think) and I have pics somewhere, which I'll try and dig out.

The Roland SRE-555 is simply a rack mounted RE-501 and was seen in Europe in the early 80's, again something I have on video/dvd, which I'll also try and look out.

The Maestro Echoplex was used by both Hank and John Farrar and was noted as such on the rear of one of their 70's album sleeves, again another visit to the loft to verify is required, unless someone has the info. at hand.

I thought I'd read the pages quite well, but every time I have another look, something else springs to mind. :D

Hi Alan, It would be great if you could track down those pics and help us complete the picture.
Hi Justin, I'm sure there will be plently to keep us occupied for some time to come!
Also, Thanks everyone for your comments on the possible book, I'll enquire about costs etc.

Best Regards,

Paul.

HI Alan

The album you refer to was 'Rockin' with Curly Leads,. It doesn't state that they used the Echoplex, in fact when i went to the studio and they were recording 'Years Away', there wasn't an Echoplex in sight. It does state they used Maestro effects units and I know John had a variety of those but, to my knowledge anyway, he never used the Echoplex

Regards

Thanks Stuart, it's hard trying to remember everything you've read years ago, but I almost got it right !! though I guess that doesn't help Paul. :(
