Justin Hayward & The Shadows

Postby Alan Taylor » 15 Jan 2013, 13:59

Quoted from the January issue of '60s music magazine The Beat (http://www.beat-magazine.co.uk):
INTO THE SHADOWS
Justin Hayward of The Moody Blues has named The Shadows as one band with whom he would like to have played.
He is highly-rated by his peers in the music business as lead guitarist with the Moodies, as well as being a top-notch singer and songwriter.
“There is a few bands I would like to have been in - The Shadows, The Crickets, or playing acoustic guitar with Steely Dan,” said Justin, who was once a member of Marty Wilde’s Wildcats.
The Moody Blues start a UK tour on Wednesday, June 5, in Oxford’s New Theatre, at 8pm.

I once met someone who'd been to school with Justin's older brother, and he said that as a youngster living in Swindon, he was playing all the Shadows music note-perfect at the age of about 15! (Don't you just hate people like that!)

Also, if you've ever seen An Audience With Jimmy Tarbuck, you'll know that when Jimmy gets up to sing at the end, his backing band is:
Drums - Kenney Jones (Small Faces/Who)
Bass - John Lodge (Moody Blues)
Keyboards - Rick Wakeman (Yes etc)
Guitar - Justin
Guitar - Hank!

Wonder if it's still available on video or DVD?

A new Hayward CD is out next month - his first for 16 years or so - always high quality stuff.

??? When was he a member of the Wildcats??? - He's played with them a few times but, a member??? - I seem to recall him being from the Moody Blues!!

Yes, that's an error. Justin was a member of The Wilde Three with Marty and his wife Joyce, releasing two singles in 1965.
