Early 1977

Postby drakula63 » 24 Jan 2013, 15:32

For some reason, the other day I recalled an article on the Shadows appearing in the children's comic 'Look-in' in about Feb 1977 to tie-in with the release/success (!) of 20 Golden Greats. I remember little else about it, other than the fact that they used a 1975 photo of the band featuring John Farrar (the same one that appears on most of the Eurovision single covers) to accompany the piece. Does anyone else remember it, or have it?

From about the same time, I remember Hank and Bruce appearing on the Saturday morning kids show Multicoloured Swap Shop and, to applause from the camera crew, getting up and (sans guitars!) doing the Shadows walk! Again, anyone else see this at the time?

Good times, I remember them well...

It's a bit after my time, but this page from the ComicVine website shows just the covers of Look-In issues from the stated period - no content detail, unfortunately.

Thanks to Heinz for determining the exact date of the issue. On this site it is possible to access all the scanned copies.

Strangely enough, I DO remember entering the competition at the time! I didn't win, so presumably I didn't!!!!!

(Think I can just about manage them all now!!!!)

The swop shop appearence was also accompanied by a competition. A complete set of Shadows albums was the prize and, if I remember rightly a guitar. I am sure there was only one question, asking what the title of the eurovision song was. I am fairly certain that the "Rarities"album came out around the same time and I spent my pocket money buying that, instead of buying lots of stamps to increase my chances of winning.

WOW! I wonder which guitar it was? A great prize. I remember watching the programme and thinking "This is good stuff!" And that is where it all began, for me. Early 1977...
