Malcolm C.'s Website: new feature on Shadows instrumentation

Postby malcolmc7 » 06 Feb 2013, 21:42

I'm sure that forum members will find the latest addition to the website of great interest. Ivo Koers has scrutinised the instrumentation on every Shadows recording, taking in everything from primary albums to alternative versions and different mixes. A matrix is provided for each number pinpointing instrument/ vocal location in the stereo soundstage; the relevant performers are identified, with notes on uncertain cases. There are eight files in A4 PDF format to which an index to every title examined will be added in due course, the whole running to over 400 pages.

It was put online this Wednesday evening.

OK folks, it's your turn...

Using Malcolm's excellent charts as a base, fill in an extra set of columns and rows with details of each of the guitars, basses, strings, echo units and settings, amps, effects, drums, sticks etc which were used on every track...

This will create the ultimate Shadows anorak data base, forever settle the arguments and speculation, and keep everyone busy...remember , the Devil finds work for idle hands...

I'm delighted that Ivo's feature has received such a positive response from forum members, thanks for writing in. I know that Ivo has worked very hard and completed a project which clearly called for tremendous concentration in record time. I'm sure that his father, himself a devoted Shadows fan, will feel immensely proud of his efforts.

Other features in preparation for the site include an appraisal of the 70s albums, a further survey of the singles from the same period, and an illustrated update to the CD Guide taking us to the end of 2012.

Best wishes
Malcolm C.

When specific electric guitars are added in the future, we could also
indicate which pickups Hank used. I believe that such a list already
exists on the (or the former) ShadowMusic website.
I don't remember who made it.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I still hope we (the whole circle of Shadows fans) will be able to exactly determine which brand and/or model of an instrument was used on a certain track.
