I think there were about 180 seats in the room to start with. We had to bring in more chairs and there are always people standing. Come over next year, Walt, and see for yourself...

Ah, you've got me there, Walt, though Alan Taylor or Ray Liffen might know...

I checked http://www.metpolicebushey.co.uk but no dimensions given...

I would estimate the room (from memory) as having the following approximate dimensions:

Width: 80 - 85 feet
Depth (proscenium to auditorium back wall): 60 feet
Ceiling height (in audience area): 18 - 20 feet.

Walt,
For some live action from the Pipeline Convention, here's another excellent band, Legend, playing The Shadows' Tomorrows Cancelled in 2011.

Walt,
The feeds from the stage microphones are split in the control area at the back of the room between the mixer for the PA and a 24 track recorder. The PA mix is done by the multitalented Bob Doré (keyboard player, sound mixer - and of course Mr 'Admin', the webmaster of the Shadowmusic site). The PA mix is not used for the DVD recording.

The sound that you hear on the Youtube clip and on all the recent Pipeline DVDs is mixed from the 24 track recordings by Alan Taylor and myself. We set aside a day purely for the audio mixing, which is done in my studio. The finished mixes are then synced in the post-production video edit sessions to the camera audio before the video edit takes place. Announcement mics and audience applause feeds are also synced in during the prep for the video edit.

Er . . . . . sorry if I have destroyed the magic! In the early days of recording the Pipeline Convention (the VHS era) a live mix was done on the day but this had to be done on headphones in the hall - not ideal.

Ok, that's even BETTER but very time-consuming and requires considerable expertise.
A tip of my hat to both of you.

The Ventures EastCoast Fan Fest in Phila PA uses the live sound and 1 cam to record the event.
The volunteers a.k.a. unpaid help don't have the equipment and/or expertise to do what you're doing. Also, there's little time to participate in sound checks so it is what it is. :)

We did investigate the cost of having the Fan Fest professionally video/audio mix and cost was minimum of $5k.

We are very lucky in having so many skilful "volunteers a.k.a. unpaid help" at the Pipeline Conventions - thanks guys & gals!
