I remember listening to that programme on first broadcast (1983, I think), and also the predecessor of the series, a one-off programme called "It Was In Tune When I Bought It", played out on August Bank Holiday, 1980.

In those days, BBC Radio 1 was still fit for people over ten to listen to.

I remember from about that time, 1983, a one hour programme which consisted mainly of an interview with Jet and Tony. I remember that Jet seemed quite enthusiastic and sounded like he was raring to go again!

I also recall that, in late 1979, Radio 1 broadcast one of Cliff's Rock n' Roll Juvenile gigs in (more or less) its entirety. A fantastic gig and possibly his best album and band of the 1970s. I think both Adrian Lee and George Ford were in the band at this point. A copy of this would be greatly appreciated...

I remember the Jet and Tony one. I taped it onto one side of a C120 tape off the radio when it was first broadcast all those years ago.

On the other side I taped an interview with Hank which may or may not be the one this thread was started about. I remember it had Hank talking about different records that had inspired him. I remember one of them was 'The great pretender' by Stan Freberg and I think Duffy Power was also talked about. But I was under the impression that the interview was jointly Hank and Pete Townshend . I think I still have the tape in my parents' attic, but as I remember it would need repairing to be played again, as the tape had a twist in it.

It was the BBC programme "It Was In Tune When I Bought It" (1980, played out on the August Bank Holiday Monday) which featured parallel personal histories from Hank and Pete Townshend.

I still have my cassette of the broadcast and I'm sure that Stan Freberg (as it happens, another favourite of mine) is not mentioned. Duffy Power has Shadows (and Beatles) connections, but again, I don't think he was mentioned by Hank. Not in that programme, anyway.

I'm sure you're right. Maybe I was thinking of the Jet and Tony interview.
