Hi Stuart,
Yes.....I bought everything issued by Hank during 1968 - 1970. It was excellent material. The "Hank Marvin" LP (& nowadays its CD version) remains one of my all - time favourite albums. Vastly underrated.

Hi all,

When Hank's single 'Break Another Dawn' (DB 8693) was in the planning demo copies were sent out with 'Would You Believe It' on the flip side and having a release date of 3.7.1970. Shortly afterwards again demo copies of the actual issued single showed release date of 17.7.1970 with 'Morning Star' on the flip side. Does anybody know the reason for this exchange?

Best wishes,

Ulrich

Hello Ulrich,
I don't know of any official reason for this decision - so this is pure supposition on my part. Although Hank was actually a very fine singer - he would only be identified as a guitarist with the British public. I can only assume that a decision was made (by whom I don't know) to issue "B A Dawn" (strongish - anthemic vocal) with an insrumental 'B' side to please fans of Hank's guitar playing - as opposed to a double - sided vocal. Maybe Norrie / Hank / Peter Gormley had feedback from the people they sent the initial demos out to & then 'pulled' "W Y B It?" (Just a theory - with absolutely no basis in actual facts whatsoever).

Hello Rob,

Many thanks for your reply. BTW 'Break Another Dawn' was arranged & directed by Tony Meehan as was 'Would You Believe It'.

Best wishes,

Ulrich

Many thanks for these scans Ulrich. I never had the " W Y B It" demo version (but did arrange for it to appear on CD for the very first time).

I can never understand why "Evening Comes" seemed to have been dropped at the same time. Could it have been too similar to "Wahine"? .

Evening comes remains one my all time favourite Hank Marvin tracks, why it was never released at the time was a mystery.
Hank stated in an interview that he was going to work on a follow up to his 'Hank Marvin' LP in 1970 but with the Shades of rock album and the formation of MWF it just got forgotten about, or he simply didn't have time.
