My local library has a copy of the 6 cd Shadows set in the back shop ,the reason being that someone has
half inched two of the discs (not me!!!)
Dont think they will fork out £114 for a replacement though as the Council Tax would have to rise for the
good citizens of the town!!!

Thanks Jim I had a look on Amazon and found I could download the 6 cds on mp3 for £24.99 and because I subscribed to the newsletter I got 25% off, so for £18.74 I now have the set.
Cheers

Jim Nugent, you cost me some money...... it was life threatening should I not possess the 6 CD set - so I bought the S/H one off Amazon.

The Paramedics no doubt tried CPR to revive your wallet as it fell to the ground in shock!!!

I'm surprised at you, Ecca.

You oughta've bought it when it came out - more than twenty years ago.

I did.

That six CD set, "The Early Years", covers:

(a) all the Drifters tracks except for the three live numbers from the "Cliff" LP,

(b) all the Shadows singles (As and Bs) as far as The Dreams I Dream (autumn 1966),

(c) all the tracks from Shadows EPs as far as "Rhythm And Greens" (plus Friends and My Way from other soundtrack LP/EP releases),

(d) the first three Shadows non-compilation LPs ("The Shadows", "Out Of The Shadows" and "Dance With The Shadows"), and

(e) a smattering of other odd tracks, such as the "French" version of Some Are Lonely and Hank's instrumental version of Evening Comes.

The earliest tracks (1959) are in mono, though Bongo Blues is stereo and both FBI and What A Lovely Tune are presented in mock-stereo. Foot Tapper is rendered in mono (possibly because of the odd volume-pulsing on the stereo version's rhythm guitar track).

Well well, after all that, the Amazon place I ordered it from told me there was a 'small problem' - there was no box.
I've told them to stick it.
Anyone else got it to sell ?
I did indeed try to get this 20 years ago and had a similar problem, it was ordered but something happened and I never got it.
Grrrrr

I can't stand mock stereo tracks, I much prefer either true stereo or mono.

You'd get a lot more than one track. The Shadows wrote all the music in that film and their playing on the Cliff songs is top notch. To me Finders Keepers is a Shads album first and foremost :)

Well, for FBI, true mono is available on CD (eg, on "The Shadows' Greatest Hits") and it has also been issued in true stereo (on Tony Hoffman's compilation CD).

What A Lovely Tune apparently suffered from having its stereo master mis-filed some time in the 1960s, so the first reissue on a UK LP (on the MfP "Walkin' With The Shadows" album) was in mock-stereo.

That reprocessed version was also used on the MfP cassette "An Hour Of The Shadows" as well as on "The Early Years" six-CD set.

The original 45rpm mono mix was released on one EP ("Dance On With...") as well as on the (MfP) CD "The Shadows In The 60's" [sic] and on the Disky triple-disc set "Good Vibrations". A true stereo version was located and eventually used on the 1997 CD "The Shadows At Abbey Road".
