This is the text that came with the e-mail.

Dear Shadows Fans,
GREAT NEWS!
At long last and after much planning we are delighted to tell you that we have been able to arrange a Shadows Celebration Show at Lakeside Country Club on Saturday 14th September 2013.
We apologise for the length of time it has taken to arrange this event but it has proved to us that Bruce Welch put a lot of his time and effort on behalf of fans when arranging his highly successful Shadowmania Shows here in previous years.
Tickets for this event will go on sale on Wednesday 8th May 2013 from 9.30am and these will be sold on a first come first served basis.
We expect that our telephone lines will experience a high volume of calls so we would appreciate your patience when trying to get through to us.
This email / letter is going out first to those fans who were good enough to reply positively to our recent survey to give you a head start in booking before we release the news to the general public.
Please note that due to the bank holiday weekend our box office will not open until Tuesday 7th May for general enquiries.
For those who like to make a weekend of it, please remember that we offer good accommodation at all our hotels and that we offer a reduced weekend rate.
Lakeside International Hotel – Frimley Green - 01252 838000
Lakeside Continental Hotel - Frimley Green -01252 836565
Lakeside Lodge Rooms - Frimley Green - 01252 836565
Potters International Hotel Aldershot - 01252 344000

Yes, it's rank and the two Shad bass players need to look at themselves. Kick in the teeth for the amateur organisers of Shadowfix.

The only thing really wrong is the date - and it will now affect Lakeside more than the existing event where people are already committed. Shame as both would be great if a few months apart every year - now a poor attendance in Frimley could kill their future events stone dead.

Makes you wonder who's behind it. I can't imagine Lakeside would do it off their own back - too much of a risk that they might end up with a half-empty hotel.

Fair play to Alan and Licorice though, it's a paying gig.

Interesting........it will be very interesting indeed to see how ticket sales go. At the risk of sticking my neck out.....I would venture to suggest that it won't sell out. When there was nothing in the offing (or so it seemed), genuine fans went to a lot of time, trouble and effort to set up "Shadowsfix" - which I hope will be well supported. Of course....Lakeside (who do, after all, put on lots of shows throughout the year) are perfectly entitled to organise their own event. But.....but.....no Friday night event (insofar as I'm aware - nothing advertised anyway) which always pulled in lots of people. Plus....of course....NO Bruce & no Bruce Welch's Shadows. That very fact will surely have a massive impact (particularly with regard to overseas fans). There are lots of great Shadows events throughout Europe and the UK. But what made Shadowmania unique was, of course, Bruce himself. Alan Jones and Brian Locking are both fabulous musicians and wonderful people. But, I just woner.....in terms of Lakeside.....is their presence sufficient to sell out over 1,000 seats at £35 a punt (+ potential hotel costs etc., etc). Of course, one could say the same about Shadsfix. Far fewer 'seats' to sell out there though and a genuine effort for fans, organised by fans. Lakeside is, inevitably, a wholly commercial venture (nothing wrong with that per se). I've already 'signed up' for Shadsfix. I may well go along to Lakeside too...simply because I can drive there in 40 minutes. I haven't decided yet - as the two events are so close together. There are some who are cynical refs: Lakeside's timing - but no - one has a monopoly on these things, that's life. But.....there may be an element of risk in the venture.....I wonder what the minimum ticket sales will be in order to simply break even. Ah well....freedom of choice....I'm just rambling on and thinking out loud. I am going to Shadowsfix (in order to support the people who took a huge risk in organising it & hopefully to have a good time too!!!). Lakeside is only 2 weeks later....so I may go along....or I may give it a miss. It's sure to be a dilemma for many of us.

Rob :)

It just seems funny that Lakeside weren't interested until Shadowsfix was mentioned !!, I have been to the last 3 and although a great weekend, travelling down from Wolverhampton+Fri/Sat tickets and 2 nights hotel/food/and a little alcohol made it a very expensive jaunt, i hope the Kingfisher Shadowsfix event goes from strength to strength, I will not be going to lakeside but I have some Kingswinford beer tokens !!

The poster, boring, but with the sub line "With the kind permission of Bruce Welch". Sounds like an endorsement of sorts which is doubtful.

He has categorically said he will NOT support or attend any such event.
