Lakeside event confirmed for September 14th

The Shadows, their music, their members and Shadows-related activity by former members of this community

The main thing wrong with the poster is the assertion that the Shadows are 'arguably' the world's greatest instrumental group. There's no 'arguably' about it. !!!! They ARE the greatest.

I LOVE superfluous apostrophes.

I never had an opportunity to attend Bruce's Shadowmania, but with your permission I'd like to throw my complaint(s) into the pile, as I am not very fond of Lakeside, in some ways.

On their brochure, Lakeside says, "With the kind permission of Bruce Welch." From what everybody else says, the reality is that Bruce said he would have absolutely no objection if someone else organised a Shadows fan event [although it is not to be named "Shadowmania"]. Having no objection is not exactly the same thing as, "With the kind permission of Bruce Welch," which has a sneaky little inference of an endorsement by Bruce. They were smart enough not to flat-out say he endorsed it, or else their phone would have rung the very next morning, with Bruce or his lawyer on the other end of the line.

The spelling and grammar are atrocious. I have worked on press releases, posters, etc. and I can see numerous mistakes -- such as the lack of a capital letter "L" in "Licorice" and, like you already said, how hard is it to put a possessive apostrophe at the end of the surname "Jones." And (I could be wrong), but why say that one group is from Liverpool and the other is from the UK...when in this particular case, that is not accurate. They're both from England, or they're both from the UK - but not one-and-one.

Both Licorice and Alan have seemingly always attended and performed at as many Shadows-related events as possible. Licorice is slated to perform at ShadowsFix. Maybe not Alan, but for all we know, he might be contracted to perform somewhere else on 31 August.

I think that all along, Lakeside never thought anyone would buy tickets for an event at which Bruce was not present. Then when they saw ShadowsFix being successful, they quickly put something together, to compete. They should have waited until the Spring, so as not to try to ruin ShadowsFix. And if they thought Bruce wouldn't even notice, I bet they're wrong.

Thanks for listening,
Donna

to be very honest here i think all the protesting about lakeside doing what it does !!and that is putting on shows events ect for people to attend if they want to!! is childish to say the least. if you dont want to go then dont go its that simple. i have read some of the comments on here and thought to myself dont comment on this it daft, but its now just plain silly.
to knock the people taking part is just plain daft, they are entertainers doing a gig like they do all the time.
the people who use this site dont have any rights on the shadows music or who plays it, or who puts shows on to entertain people who want to see and hear it.
i hope the shadows event put on by the people from this site is a great succes and is repeated for years to come, and a big well done to those concerned.
lakeside is a professional set up that is there to make money and good luck to them in these hard times. i really cant see how it will affect the outcome of the sites event.
why people want to keep knocking other peoples efforts to stay ahead of the hard times we are all going though i just dont understand, people seem to take it as a personal affront that lakeside dare go ahead with out this forums permision. good luck to both events. and peace to all. peter

I don't suppose they need Bruce Welch's permission either so why put it on the poster other than with the intention of suggesting that it is an endorsement - which it clearly isn't.

You are right about the spelling and grammar being atrocious Donna !!!
If my old English teacher was still around, she would be kicking the copy boy and proof reader in their
little apostrophes!!!!

The design of the poster indicates external influences outwith Lakeside, surely their professionalism would warrant something better. I remember a lot of past posts on here in addition to emails which were sent to various people and there is an alarming similarity. I'm waiting for a Friday evening bash to follow and all will be complete. ;)

Let me get this straight, fans of Shadows music are complaining that there are going to be 2 shows arranged to perform the music that they enjoy within the space of a few weeks. So fans are saying that there should be less live Shadows music??
Sorry to make you even more angry but Life Story will be putting on a show of Live Shadows Music in a little old Barn in the midst of Nottinghamshire on the 10th September, so that makes 3

Any complaints???????

It would certainly be "Et tu, Brute?" ;)
