ShadowsFix: The Friday night Shindig

Postby MeBHank » 16 May 2013, 19:48

Hi all...

Here are the initial plans for what has been dubbed the Friday night "Shindig", the get-together which will kick-off the ShadowsFix weekend.

I was originally intending to keep the Friday to backing tracks only, but that would essentially discriminates against anyone who isn't a lead guitarist. Therefore we will make a band set-up available (complete with amplifiers and drum kit) for anyone who wishes to get a group together. Of course, playing to backing tracks will still be an option. No piece will be heard twice during the Shindig, so, to you will need to register your tunes of choice via the official channel (contact details for the organisers of the Shindig will be included in the cover letter accompanying your tickets).

It has been brought to my attention that some people are concerned about the lack of food at the venue on the Friday evening. The reason we didn't ask the venue to supply food is due to the cost, which would have to have been added to the price of the tickets. We were able to arrange the Shindig for free. We decided that the evening's music should start no earlier than 8:00pm, allowing time for people to eat their evening meal elsewhere.

Remember, ShadowsFix is arranged "for the fans, by the fans". The full running order of the Shindig will largely be dictated by you, because it's your event! For the Friday night, you're the performers, so get thinking, be creative and have fun; help put on as enjoyable and varied a night as possible!

Over to you...

OK... let me get this one in early...

Looking for a lead guitarist to play the guitar part (not the six-string bass part) on Thunderbirds on the Friday night, live with a band (I have an idea that there will a rhythm player, bassist and drummer on hand who all know the song).

"Play" means play just like on the record, since the guitar part is more or less played in unison (an octave above) the lead part on the six-string bass, with little room for excursionary self-expression, man.

While we're at it, it would be nice to be able to use the same line-up for Stingray.

Any takers?

One way of providing food would be to do an "American wotsit" can't remember the second word
where everyone brings some buffet food and it's all pooled for everyone to eat - just a thought!

I just realised I forgot to ask the specialist if i can play the bass after my stroke!

If he'd have said yes my reply would have been "That's great I can't play it now!" -

I'll save it for my 3 week stroke clinic visit!!

As simple as that idea sounds, I'm afraid it's not going to be possible, Amanda. However, the club may be serving food in their restaurant that evening. If they are, I expect it's possible to book in advance by contacting them directly. As I said, the start time was not set for early evening as we wanted to give everyone a chance to eat before the Shindig started.

By the way, hope you're feeling better soon!
