Trouble is, a lot of the BBC researchers now weren't old enough to remember that time or weren't even born so what do they know?

Why could they not have done a proper 50s Rock &Roll special concert 1 hour immediately after this
offering?
I am sure Joe Brown , Vince Eager, Wee Willie Harris would have been delighted to illustrate the way
it was in the U.K. Plenty other good British Rockabilly acts on the circuit that could have done justice
on Brand New Cadillac, Shaking All Over etc . if someone at the BEEB or BOOB had some foresight!!!

At least we got to see (also in glorious close-up) presumably Strat 34346 (140gns!) in its original form, although no mention by Bruce of James Burton!

It was OK.

Nice to see Bruce and Licorice and, of course, Clem Cattini, Mo Foster, Cliff, etc... I agree that it looked like Brian on drums in one of the old film clips. Naturally, even though this all took place many years before the arrival of the Beatles, they HAD to be mentioned. I guess it's obligatory.

There WILL be a documentary eventually which puts the Shadows well and truly into their correct and much overlooked perspective. We all just have to be patient...

Yep, I reckon it's young Bennett!

Yes, it is Brian Bennett and also Brian Locking on double bass plus Joe Moretti on guitar. It's an excerpt of the 1959 colour short film 'Coffee Bars', which is a bonus on the collectors editions DVD of Cliff's 'Expresso Bongo' only:

"Other Bands are (of course!) available"

I watched the (recorded) programme - good to see some real rock 'n rollers. Me and Marg had a good old sing-along!

I thought it was a pretty good programme, although for some reason I thought there was going to be a 'part 2' next week. Shame there's obviously no film of Johnny Kidd and the Pirates still in existence; I remember thinking that when the 'Jukebox Heroes' series of half hour British r'n'r profiles was shown a few years ago. It was great seeing Cherry Wainer playing 'Hoots Mon'! She recorded one of Cliff's compositions, I believe - Happy Like a Bell. I've never heard it, though...

Cheers,
Clive
