Last message we had from CDbaby was that they were planning to release a physical CD and have been waiting for copies from 'supplier' but so far nothing so they are going with just the download for the time being, and if a physical CD does turn up they will let us know when it is in stock.

My brother in law who lives in Perth, Australia went to see Hank in concert play Gypsy Jazz about 2 weeks ago. He bought me a copy of Django's Castle and got both Hank and Nunzio to sign it(pity he didn't get Gary Taylor to sign but you can't have everything). It was delivered tonight by my neice who flew over here yesterday, so looking forward to a good night of music
:D

I downloaded it a couple of days ago at a cost of £6.80 for the files which are offered in flac. lossless cd quality as well as mp3. Also a cover illustration which is not as detailed as the one which John has just posted. I converted the files to wav. and burned a cd from them.

I am most impressed with Hank's efforts and I think it is a great credit to him to be trying new things at this stage of his career. I know many folk don't like this genre of music but I do and I've played the album several times, enjoying it more with each spin. Two of the tracks were previously issued on the "Stars of Gypsy Swing" double cd recently.

Hank's playing is excellent considering his age and the fact that this type of music has not been a lifelong study. He executes some fast runs and his improvisations on the melody are intelligent and pleasing. There are better players of course, but I enjoy listening to Hank knowing that he is playing music which he enjoys and has practiced hard to achieve.

Recommended :)

Following on about the physical CD, cdbaby.com actually said they had been promised CDs on the 24th January but after chasing them up, they still haven't received copies. So they are not saying there are no CDs just that they haven't got them yet for sale..........just watch this space. Maybe Tony can give Hank/Nunzio a hefty nudge.

Happy to download most things these days - but not artists I 'collect' the top ones of which are the Shads and Hank - so will wait for the CD.
