Actually, it;s always quieter in the summer months, and has been ever since 1998... and every year, someone says "it's all coming to a end..." and it doesn't :)

As it has been pointed out that this topic has digressed into quite a few different themes I find it strange that my post
which was right on topic seems to have been completely ignored. Maybe this will start another topic :)

I didn't ignore it at all Maurice but unless someone replies specifically you're not going to know! Yes there is a lot of accumulated knowledge which the site's excellent search facility will help you turn up. Yes the admins are pleased that the site is running nicely and acquiring new members every day. Yes it's a bit quiet but as DM points out that's not unusual in the summer. No I won't shoot you down in flames because you are right and doing so would be rude anyway!
But don't be too surprised your comment didn't spark a reaction -- this thread has strayed to include Hawaii 5-0 and, at the same time, cheese cobs: a sure sign it has gone totally off the rails :D

Is that legend or true ? I hope it's true. I'm a fan of all those people who played on Brian Wilson's sessions. That's my favourite music (Smile/Pet Sounds).
Give me a few days and i'll try and make some noise here.

The full story is that they were recording some new Ventures tracks whilst the band were touring, using session players as usual (e.g. Billy Strange also played on some Ventures tracks) This is no secret, as any Ventures fan knows...they never claimed to have played on ALL and every track recorded and released as The Ventures...

It was planned to do a version of Hawaii 50 (a currently popular TV show theme) but the producer thought it was a tricky piece to play on guitar, so he phoned Tommy Tedesco (who was an incredible sight reader) to book him for the session next day, and said that, as it was a tough piece to play, he was sending a courier over with the sheet music, so that Tommy could study it and practice it before the session the next day.

After getting the sheet music, Tommy later rang the producer and shouted 'You're insulting me!!'...and when he came to the session the next day, played the piece in one take- BEHIND HIS HEAD...!

Classic. Thanks for that. I think Tedesco was amongst the "Wrecking Crew" one of those who was seriously annoyed that he had to play pop sessions to earn a living as he was so good on the guitar. It probably p's him right off that i listen to him all the time but via The Beach Boys and Monkees etc. !
