BATTERY LIFE - INTERESTING WEBSITE

Ever wondered which AA, AAA or PP3 battery is actually longer lived or performs better than the others?
This website has a lot of details and some surprises.
If you check Price against Performance there are some batteries that are better Value For Money than others.
I recently changed from Procell Duracell to Varta High Energy and find no difference in Life AND saved some money as they are only 2/3rds the price or less.

Hi Ian -Interesting comparisons and a useful site.

On the subject of batteries - The guy who sits next to me at work put some rechargable AA's on charge yesterday. after a couple of minutes we could smell this awful smell - one of the batteries was smoldering - he immediatly unplugged the charger and as he tried to remove the burning battery from the charger with a screwdriver - the thing exploded. It was like a bomb going off !! luckily no one was hurt but the boss got some fall out in his hair... and the office stunk for several hours. I didn't know rechargables could do that.

I had power connected to a portable radio transceiver,
permanently at one point, which was no problem until one night,
I was sitting at the computer and I heard a hissing noise and smelt heat.

I put my hand on the transceiver and it was red hot so I unplugged it and
opened the battery cover, the 6 "C" cells had all the plastic coatings melted off
them and one was steaming.

I shook the batteries out of the radio out of the window into the garden.

A close shave indeed, the batteries were Nicads and the reason for the problem was
that I had been using a 2.1mm power connector that was slightly too long which overrode
the contacts that disconnect the battery supply when using external power!

P.S. Ian, who's that bloke in your avatar? I've seen him before somewhere!

Yes definetly rechargeable ones - but we wont let him charge anymore !
Interesting that artical on the Flickr site so it's happened before.

I think Ian has the right idea - use the chart on Ian's link and buy the non rechargable ones that last the longest.
