£ 17.99 hey, that's a damn good price and represents a two thirds reduction on the price I paid back in 1992 when it first came out. Will I buy it this time around ?. As before, I find it a real pity that "Shadow Music", "Jigsaw" and "From Hank, Bruce, Brian and John" could not have been included as well as the Shadows tracks from "Established 1958" but I suppose the old rights issue still applies ?

I'll be buying this as it'll cover the holes in my collection (don't have several tracks from some EP's on CD)
There's a track on there i have never heard of called 'Spanish Music'. Is that an unreleased track? I've never heard of that before.

Spanish Music is from the "Finders Keepers" soundtrack.

Glad to see this project coming good. I will buy it for the new stereo versions.

Well done to all involved. I am well aware of the roles Rob and Hoffers have played over the years and both are greatly respected and apppreciated in this community.

Best - Iain

I saw that one track from the period 1959 to 1966 is absent, namely "Happy Birthday To You". One could debate of course if it's one hundred percent a Shadows track. Or has it been left off because of Hank's beliefs? I also saw that "Spanish Music" has been included for the first time on a Shadows compilation. Is indeed only "Spanish Music" included or also Cliff & The Shadows' "Fiesta"?
Also, has the stereo (and perhaps also the mono equivalent) master tape of the slow version of "Some Are Lonely" been relocated? The only CD issue of the stereo mix until now has been on the 1993 CD "The EP Collection Vol.3" on the See For Miles Records label, but the source for that was a copy of the stereo 10" French issue of the "Out Of The Shadows" album, I think.

I still have the french 10" LP "Out of the Shadows" (stereo version). Not sure there are many around, pop music in stereo didn't sell much at this time. This was the first stereo disc by the Shadows I bought. The first Shadows' album was released in mono only in France, also on a 10" LP with all the sung tunes removed.

As far as I know, all the Shadows recordings before 1980 are fully owned by EMI. They can reissue them as they like, without the Shadows having a word to say.

Philip, Ivo....come on you guys...give us a break!!! (LOL). Seriously though...Philip...the whole of "Shadow Music" is there both in stereo and mono (the mono LP has never before been reissued on CD ). Philip....everything else you mention is post -1966, which is why it isn't there! If this expanded edition sells well....then further projects may well be given the go ahead. All 6 CDs now have c. 78 mins of music - there isn't space to fit much else on there. Every single Drifters / Shadows officially UK released studio recording 1959 - 1966 is present and correct (in stereo wherever possible) + 30 or so tracks making their CD debut in mono.

Ivo..."Happy Birthday" and "Fiesta" were originally Cliff Richard / Shadows tracks. Anything involving Cliff would now (apparently) require additional clearance. This is a Shadows release only - so no involvement from Cliff. The instrumental b/t for "Happy Birthday" was originally going to be used on "The Shadows At Abbey Road". It was, as you correctly assert, removed at the express instruction of Hank Marvin. EMI are still honouring that. Hank's views haven't changed. EMI would need Hank's permission to include it & he would undoubtedly still turn it down. The stereo master for "Some Are Lonely" is still missing, presumed lost. As the AV stereo mix of "S A L" has only ever appeared on the aforementioned SFM CD in 1993 (now long - deleted) and an obscure French CD in 1999 (now itself long - deleted). Then the SFM CD will be used as the source - doubtless further sonically enhanced by the very latest available sound restoration technology. I can assure everyone that a lot of time, care and effort has been spent on this project - with long - term fans / collectors, quality control and value for money all very much in mind.

Rob :)

Rob, thank you for your reply. About "Shadow Music", I thought (looking at the tracklisting) that only the stereo issue of the album is featured on the new 6 CD box and only "The Sound Of The Shadows" is there in both mono and stereo, because all CD issues of that album have been in stereo only so far.

I have seen the odd PD release where Saturday Dance & Loneosme Fella are described as being in stereo.

Are these true stereo, possibly not, but if so why are they only in mono on this new box.

Does anyone know anything about the packaging, i.e. the size ?
Will it be 5" x 5" package and therefore fit on a standard CD shelf, etc ?

Also seems the SA EP live material is not inlcuded but I understand it is 'studio recordings' only.

I was VERY, VERY fortunate to get a copy of this box set for a fiver (yes £5!!!!!) from a charity shop about a year ago!!! Bearing in mind the high prices it was going for on ebay/amazon, I was almost (almost!) speechless!!!! For this reason, I cannot be 100% certain if I shall be buying this new release - as enticing as it is!!! Having said that, congrats to everyone concerned - an essential purchase for (almost) everyone!
