The Burns Era Sound

Postby Tab » 14 Nov 2009, 15:35

Message directed at David (Martin) in particular - in response to a posting of mine on the old site entitled 'But I can't make it sound like a Burns' there were some recommendations for guitar and amp settings to achieve the necessary.

Unfortunately, since the site changes, I have lost these and would be grateful for some help again.

My Shadows Custom De-Luxe Marvin sounds more like a Strat than my Strats do but the classic Burns sound still eludes me.

Any recommendations for setting advice for the guitar and AC30 would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Terry

David will probably respond but he usually advises that the bass control is full on and then turn the treble up from zero until it begins to bite.

Blimey! When I saw this request was signed "Terry", I had to re-read it! Turns out it's a different Terry! Funny Old World, innit?
Love to all,
Mart.

Am I being daft? Surely, if you want the Burns Marvin sound, you play a Marvin not a Strat?

Otherwise, if a Strat can be made to sound like a Marvin, or a Marvin to sound like a Strat, then a Gretsch Country Gent can be made to sound like a Strat. And so on :)

Hi,

If you read the post again you will see that he is playing a Marvin.

When I had a Marvin, it sounded more like a Strat!

Regards

Ian

I have a video of me playing "Semi Detached Suburban Mr. James" at the Hankies almost four years ago. The video and editing was done by Ecca Thacker.

I can't get it to attach to this due to the fact it's far too large.

If anyone wants to see / hear it I'll gladly e-mail it to you.

I used my Custom Shop Strat Neck and Middle pickups. Zoom EFTP RFX 2000 patch 9. The amp at the time was a Vox Valvetronix 120. ( I tended to use the Valvetronix with everything at 12.00 o clock ). Except volume of course. Alter to suit.

Send me an e-mail at alanbakewell AT sky.com ( replace AT with @ ) and I'll send it to you.

If someone can link it to here all well and good.

Cheers, Alan.

You big daft Scotsperson

I'm glad you drew my attention to this Alan. It was actually, BRIDGE and middle pickups. Plus the other things what I wrote.

Cheers, Alan.
