As far as possible this site is uncensored and members are free to use it as they wish. However, as in any community there has to be a few simple rules for the good of all members. We have tried to keep these as short and simple as possible and ask all members to abide by them.

The different forums are there to help people find the topics they are interested in. Please post in the one that seems most suited to your message. Posts may get moved if they are off topic and there's somewhere they are better placed.

Bad language, defamatory remarks, personal attacks on members or illegal content are not permitted under any circumstances. Posts which contravene this rule will be edited or removed and the poster warned. Repeated contravention of this rule will result in the poster being banned.

Remember that this is a public forum. Many different people, including The Shadows, read these messages. Please read through your post before submitting it, consider how it might be interpreted by others and whether it contravenes these rules.

Any member who feels that a post is in need of attention is asked to report it to a moderator and not add fuel to the fire by commenting on that post.

Any comments or questions about the site, please use the Member's Comments forum

Thank you for reading this short message and we hope you enjoy using these forums.

Thanks Ian (& Amanda)

Still doesn't address the anything else that is not permitted in an international forum issue though

Why does everything have to be so bloody complex these days ?

Dick, we're human!

If at the end of this discussion it becomes clear that the guidance needs to be revised in any way, we'll do it.

Meanwhile, common sense is the main thing!

Despite my views on censorship as outlined in my earlier post, I do agree that bad language and illegal material should not be tolerated under any circumstances. Usually what we get is a few people getting overheated and posting often semi-literate ramblings which go nowhere near the bad language, illegal or defamation categories.

My point is, the 'panic button' is all too readily pushed and this results in people with honest contradictory opinions being reluctant to comment. I know that this has been the case on several occasions in the past and it is not healthy.

The reason for the anything else clause is quite simple and necessary.

I am not a lawyer or legal expert and neither are the moderators of ShadowMusic. A thread may be running which, to me, seems ok even though some members are getting a little heated. If we learn during the course of the discussion that there is a potential legal problem with the content then it has to be stopped and, if necessary, deleted.

Terry,

If someone doesn't have the confidence to express his/her views on a subject without breaking the basic rules of decency as has been outlined I would prefer that they didn't post.

In fact there has been practically no censorship on ShadowMusic for some years.

Hardly any posts have been removed or edited by the moderators and never anonymously or without an explanation.

All that has had to happen occasionally is for a thread to be locked either because it has degenerated to name calling and other defamatory statements or because the subject matter has become uncomfortably close to the bounds of legality.
