My advice would be to get it set up right the way you want it first, especially string height & pickup height & string gauge, way before you go changing any parts. You may well find that it really is fine for playing everything that you want to play, inc. Shads music. Changing pickups etc. may not make that much difference to the sound, if you have a decent amp, with a decent speaker, & the right echoes. The Classic series Strats are a really good buy for what you pay, & are the value route to a great '50s/'60s vintage sound.

I have one as well and just love it to bits, I have changed the scratch plate for a single ply parchment one as I thought the difference in colour between the scratch plate and the rest of the plastics was out of balance, the original one was bright white while the rest of the plastics were more of a creamy colour.
The shop I bought it from also carried out a free full set up after a month or so and while they were doing this I asked them to fit a white graphite nut .
I have also changed the bridge for my wilkinson one with the modified push in trem arm, simply because I prefer it.

Oh yeah cos I dont like to run with the crowd mine is two tone sunburst a'la Buddy Holly

I fitted CS54s to mine and heavy strings. I had to file the string slots in the top nut to accomodate the 12 -52s and whilst I was about it I made them deeper which improved the action considerably. The strings had been so high at the first fret that it made life difficult. Now it is superb and the actual body finish is better than on my American Series Strat.

yeah, bit of a down side it only coming with a soft case but for the price ya can`t grumble.been looking out for a hard case, there are some decent ones about at £50 ish.my other half has got me down as a head case! i`d hate to think i was sane,it would spoil all the fun.

cheers,steve.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the message, the good wishes are reciprocated (I think that is spelled correctly).

It’s strange how wives seem to have an in-built misunderstanding about a man and his relationships . . . after all it could be a lot worse!!!!!

In fact, I may finish up marrying my Strat, when all is said and done, it looks good, does what I tell it to do, doesn’t answer back, doesn’t want clothes (just strings)!!!!

Oh! The wife just called, got to go and do the washing-up!!! Just joking . . . honest.

On a more serious note, and reading some of the previous posts on this thread, I was looking at the Peavey hard case to protect the instrument, seems like a reasonable price at just under £50, has anybody had experience of this or other hard cases that can be recommended.

Regards
dobroman
