I think you can get that book from Kindle for £4.95. Also, paperback copies go for much much more than £11.00 these days. Looks like a bargain either way.

Didn't John Rostill audition for Joe Meek sometime before he joined The Shadows? I'm sure i read that somewhere, maybe he even recorded something.

John Rostill certainly did audition for Joe Meek as part of Terry Young & The Youngstars (minus Terry Young - who already had a solo contract with Pye -who occasionally used some members of his backing group). I got the information from future session legend / producer Bruce Baxter (who was part of the group). They laid down 4 tracks - never released - at 304 Holloway Road - but he couldn't remember what they were. They are now lost amongst the legendary 'Tea - Chest Tapes'. Moreover - Heinz was replaced in the Tornados by Brian Gregg (ex - Johnny Kidd & the Pirates). When he was fired following a drink - fuelled incident, Joe Meek met John Rostill again and offered him the bass position in the Tornados. Amazingly - more or less at the same time - John was offered a job with Cliff Richard & The Shadows. We all know which one he chose. I believe it was Ray Randall who then joined the Tornados for a while on bass. The Tornados information came from both Bruce Baxter and Heinz himself.

Bests....Rob :D

I don't think so... Bobby Graham was followed by others, including Mick Underwood.
