I had a great seat, or so I thought at first, in fact I was right in front of the rhythm AC30, regardless of who was playing or which pickup they used, all I could hear was an icepick treble which completely obliterated anything else.

Now I've been standing in front of a guitar amp for many years and doing discos since 1969 so I reckon I can cope with loud noises, but by 7 pm my ears had gone, I'd got a splitting headache and felt decidedly dodgy.

I tried standing at the back but by that time it was just a noise so sadly I went home.

What were my views well band 1 from what I could make out seemed pretty good, band 2 were struggling and it was quite clear their rhythm guitar was not happy with the sound of the amp, band 3 was good, but I've worked with quite a few tributes over the last decade some good, some excellent, some not so good, but all I could say of last night was he had a pink jacket and sung Cliff Richard songs.

I'd looked forward to the event for months and was gutted to have to leave, in fact it's now 10.30 Sunday night and my hearing is still whistling and compressed, I accept that maybe the amp was focused on my seat and maybe others didn't have the same problem, but whoever sound checked should have stood out front it was just screaming treble.

During act 2 I did go to get a drink and even at the bar the rhythm guitar sounded far to thin and loud.

Maybe if you got most from the PA it may have sounded better.

So did I enjoy it, well this was the 5th or 6th at Lakeside I've been to and the only live music event I've ever left early.

Will I go next year if there is one? If Bruce is at the helm maybe, if he isn't, probably not.

Well I've been to all of the Shadowmania's, all of which are basically on the same theme albeit with some variations. This event being no different. I thought it was good, certainly liked Pete Donegan - splitting image/mannerisms of his dad.
Can't think of anywhere else i'd get to hear/see "my kinda music" played continuously from 3pm to nearly 11pm, & at that price.
So i'll be looking forward to Sept 13 next year!

I couldn't make Shadowfix but went to the Lakeside event. It was very enjoyable and similar to previous Shadowmanias.
The bands were all excellent.
The only thing that I felt let it down was the PA, the overall sound was not as good as previous years. Other people I spoke to felt the same.
Overall it was a great day / evening, I'll be there next year.

The Round tables were certainly better than the long ones and having to twist round to see the stage, I never sat down though...

It was a great show at Lakeside I thought it was a lot better with not so many people with more room to move around, we should all support these shows to keep the Shadows music alive . A lot of music for very little ticket price .

Lakeside are doing it again next September & I will be there I have already booked my room & I know a lot of other people have as well.
We must support these shows to keep the Shadows music alive.

Lakeside Frimley - Here is a link to YouTube clips of Alan Jones's Apache Mania set that I video'd from the balcony.
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL ... cWugbAUh89

I've only edited and uploaded 11 so far out of 101 for the whole show.
Takes a lot of work with a 3 camera edit so will take a long time to get them all on YT.

I thought Daniel Martin's playing was outstanding and played some great solo's note perfect - check out the solo in "Don't Make my baby blue" - More great solo's to come with Blue Shadow - just doing them in the order they were played.

Well done guys !!

Cheers Phil
