I don't usually do condolences: everything that needs to be said about a fellow member's passing and the life which went before is usually said much more eloquently than I can manage.
But Dave Harrison is truly an exception. He was loved and respected by musicians the length and breadth of the country and his death will hit hard in those places where he appeared with his perpetual smile and willingness to play anything with anybody.
But it's at the Scarborough club where I'm sure his absence will be most keenly felt. I had the great pleasure of sharing drumming duties with Dave for a long time at the club and we spent some great Sunday afternoons playing along to all that wonderful music and loving every minute of it. At gigs, too, we shared equipment, sat in for each other when necessary and, generally become interchangeable, always with that great grin which said, "Hey, we're here to have a good time. Let's have one". And we did. The move to Devon didn't mean we saw less of him either; I can't think of anyone who put in so many miles just to come and play and make sure the other guys had a drummer behind them. Those of you who didn't know Dave are the poorer for it. He was everything previous contributors have said. In Spades! Our condolences go to Carol and all the family and tonight we'll raise a glass to a man of whom no bad word could be spoken. It must be said, Dave; you were truly a Legend, and we miss you terribly. God bless you.
Love to all,
Mart.
