Shadows unreleased material

Can anyone tell me why Bruce Welch is SO AGAINST releasing unissued Shadows tracks either from E.M.I. sessions or B.B.C. sessions, I know Tony Hoffman up in York has a few C.D.'S for sale but the prices are out of my range. I have a few oddments recorded from the televison on to cassette but it would be great to hear them in clear sound rather than well worn tape.
If E.M.I. can put out The Beatles at the Beeb, why can't something be done about The Shadows at the Beeb? It is known that Bruce Welch has a private collection of Buddy Holly un-released and various out-takes, or are Hank and Brian never asked or consulted on un-released material, or is Bruce the official spokesman, due to Hank being several thousands of miles away?
Chatting to Colin of The Rapiers recently he has heard several recordings of Shadows rarities and has said the sound quality is good, visual rarities are more difficult as the film clips are owned by so many of the now redundant televison companies of yesteryear ie Anglia. Granada, Tyne Tees, Yorkshire, to name but a few. Your comments and views please.

Well if I can start the ball rolling so to speak, like many of us I accept the situation of unreleased material is not always ideal
but unfortunately that's the way it is meantime.
Obtaining sub quality recordings that sound pretty awful even if rare are ok for a once play or so but that's about it.
Many members here will have unofficial issues of material in circulation such as early/mid 60s BBC recordings, How
obtained is their business if they so wish.
What still remains in the EMI archives, others more in the know may wish to comment on.

Bruce Welch is a perfectionist, and don't want any low quality recordings being issued...

I wonder why you single out Bruce?

I was in his company when he listened to all the "BBC" material and the only material rejected was rejected by all three of them... And they were right... The very early radio material sounded awful...

Refs: "The Shadows At Abbey Road" (for example)......Brian was quite happy to hear the unissued material (& for EMI to issue it), Hank wanted "Happy Birthday To You" (undubbed) removed - for personal reasons. Bruce was all for scrapping the entire project and the original tracklisting was drastically revised at his behest.

I'd love to hear the unreleased material but according to the note in the 'Everything of value' CD all that was left was either backing tracks or unfinished tracks, all other unreleased material was destroyed at the wish of Norrie Paramore.
This hasn't quite turned out to be the case but i would love to see more live material released, especially from the 1964-1968 period as i don't have anything from that period. Someone on this forum mentioned that a 1967 Japan concert was recorded by EMI but i can't see any reference to that anywhere.
I guess if all three members have rejected anything being released i guess we'll just have to respect their wishes.

Whatever one thinks about their blandness, those albums are well-recorded, well-rehearsed and well-played.

They are therefore not of low quality, but it's fair to say that they do lack something in artistic integrity (with "Reflection" being a fair bit better than the other two, especially compared to "Simply Shadows" <spit>).

I think I mentioned this concert once on the forum, but other fans/members too. If the TV performance from June 18th, 1967 on Japanese TV is anything to go by, then the EMI recorded (multitrack recording?) concert must be of first-rate quality, sound quality-wise and above all, performance-wise.

Wouldn't this concert be a perfect addition to a follow-up of the new 6 CD box set "The Early Years 1959-1966"? The title of the set could be "The Late 60's - 1967-1970" and consist of the remainder of The Shadows' 1960's output in stereo, as well as the other tracks from this period which remain to be released on CD in their original mono mix. A bonus then could be the 1967 Japanese concert and a left-over, finished track from the "Shades Of Rock" recording sessions, called "Hi-Heel Sneakers".

A few years ago I got EMI Gold interested in The Shadows in Japan 1967 and received a 'listening' copy. However, because there was only about 20 mins in total it wasn't worth pursuing. The version of 'Shadoogie' is all over the place and under-rehearsed with Bruce apologising to the audience and saying 'I didn't know we was doing that one tonight'. With only a year to go before the spilt I imagine the dressing room was a not a nice place to be at that time.
