That is quite true. It's also the only officially released live document of the group where John makes some of the announcements and sings some parts which Bruce used to sing together with Hank. Also, the album presents the only released live versions of "A Little Bitty Tear" and "Slaughter On Tenth Avenue" and perhaps the only time the group played "Exodus".

Several items of interest to me have been thrown up during the course of this thread.

1) I had never heard (or indeed heard of) High-Heeled Sneakers from the Shades of Rock album. A shame this couldn't have been included as the bonus track on the recent RPM re-release.

2) I had no idea that only 20 minutes of the fabled 1967 Japan concert existed. By the sounds of it, understandable that this project went no further. A shame, none the less...

3) I agree that Hank has an 'unusual' guitar sound on 'The Shadows Live in Japan 1969', but I don't think it is necessarily a bad sound overall. I LOVE the album and am of the opinion that the performances all round are generally very good. I cannot understand why it is so roundly condemned, other than the fact that Bruce is not on it. Alan makes for a more than acceptable replacement and, as has been pointed out, keyboards (and in particular) the Hammond organ were becoming very prominent in pop music by the end of the decade. Alan does, of course, feature on a couple of tracks on the 1979 album String of Hits and appears on Top of the Pops with the lads on at least one occasion during this period.

As we all know (!), there is plenty of 'bootleg' 100% unofficial and unsanctioned material floating around out there and it's always a pleasure to see and/or hear something new. Of course very little of it, if any, will ever see official release, but that's the way it goes... (To quote a song title)

I can understand the shads if they don't want to have all the wrongs and wrats on a disk....
But as a fan I like to have it in my collection ;) ,never in my mind I would think of jokeing around with it and never pulling the shads leg with those wrats and wrongs.....
Funny thing is that most of the people mention Bruce as a large force against un-authorized publications....
I saw with my onw eyes that Bruce collected large qwantities of un-authorized and un-released incl bootlegs cd's etc. of his own career on a few meetings in Holland.
Also a welknown drummers son is an avid collector of al kinds of un-realeased/un-authorized material.
As an example I would like to hear What a lovely tune, without the voiceover of Brian....nothing wrong with that,it's an offical recording and a nice variation to have the "instrumental version"...

Tin hat in place ;)

Re previous post , Mr Goran Tanring has kindly made his own speechless version of What A Lovely Tune on his website.
Also a B/T if anyone wants a go , but not tabbed in this case.

I believe there in a complete instrumental version of What a lovely tune in the vaults but apparently it's too rough to release.

Yes, that is what I have understood too. If Rollercoaster Records want to keep the costs of this planned official release at a reasonal level, they must release it before the end of October 2013, because (as I understand it) the copyright laws will change per November 1st, 2013, meaning that the expiration date for copyrighted music will be extended from 50 to 70 years.

Understand about the potential change to the copyright laws but I also assume that it will only apply to material from 1963 onwards. If so, the bulk of the Drifters / Shadows BBC tracks is pre 1963 and will still be OOC

Also my understanding is that Rollercoaster pays all royalties anyway.

"Release", in order to beat the cut-off date, could conceivably take the form of making (say) just one hundred 100 CDR-s available.

Or even, if that's a bit difficult in the time-scale, one hundred 1Gb memory sticks with the music as wav files and the track listing as a jpg or text doc.

If there is anyone reading this with access to Rollercoaster Records: please suggest it immediately.

I'll even undertake to do all the copying.
