VERY IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ

Postby Admin » 07 Oct 2013, 20:03

Firstly, sorry that ShadowMusic has been down today. This has been due to the IT industry's passion for taking perfectly good software and stopping it working for various ridiculous reasons. Sometimes (such as today) you don't even get any notice that this is going to happen. This is why I don't work in IT any more.

I had thought I'd found a workaround for the threat of this happening but obviously not. So we are now on an emergency version of ShadowMusic.

The ShadowMusic we know and love is a heavily customised version of the phpbb software which, in theory, cannot be upgraded. However I have done so but at the expense of losing all of the addons (such as the gallery) and modifications that have been made since we first went live.

Nothing has been lost and I shall restore the modifications one by one as and when I can. My personal situation is not the same as when I implemented ShadowMusic in that I now have to go to work and have very limited time during the week. Remods will commence on Saturday all being well.

All the pictures from the gallery are intact as are the owner's information. It is only the links to the gallery that are lost. I shall restore same asap.

Please take great care when using ShadowMusic until all the mods are back. Some mods were implemented to make it easier to use and to stop members making mistakes.

If anyone finds a showstopping problem please send me an email and I'll try to find time to fix it asap but please be aware that this cannot happen during the day.

I'll keep a record of progress on this thread as the mods are reinstated.

Thanks for your indulgence,

Bob.

Thanks Bob. I knew some features were missing and wondered. So I am not surprised to read your account. Thanks as always for being across it so quickly.

All the best! Iain

Yes, thanks, Bob. It's easy for us to take things (like this forum) for granted until something goes wrong. I'm sure we can manage for a while with things as they are, so please don't rush unnecessarily.

Hi Bob

Software can be maddening when you get everything working just the way you want it, only to find that someone has changed or discontinued it. This happened to me last week with our club members information, so after a week of sorting things out I can fully empathise with your situation.

You do a great job, thanks for everything!

Best wishes

Gary

Bob
your work on SM and the IT work in particular are always exemplary and we would be very hard pressed if it were not so.
Many thanks for keeping us going in the interim and play "catch up" as and when you have the time available.
cheers
