Geoff, I think you've missed the point. The fact that music over 50 years old is still considered popular enough to be given air-time is very reassuring for those of us who are still playing that music, especially at live gigs. The idea of music half a century old being played on the radio back in the sixties would have been thought ludicrous, but it's quite acceptable nowadays. At my music-shop gig, recently, I was being asked to play favourite Shadows titles by customers/other musicians, too young to have known that music originally, and that has to be, to some extent, because the music is still being played on radio and elsewhere.

So to do this then surely we want to hear it played on radio, telly and whatever other means to get it out there to the masses. It's not just ours to savour. I think years of buying records/ cd's video and the many live concerts we've payed for is it too much to ask for radio and the likes to let us hear it occasionally in our daily routines instead of the usual Buble, Jackson, Stewart sh-t that we get rammed down our ear holes along with the constant verbal dioreha that the majority of presenters wish to serve us.

Me neither, I stopped listening to Radio One about 20 years ago and moved over to Radio Two but now find that Radio Two is equally annoying and don't listen to that either. The only decent show on Radio Two are presented by Brian Matthew and Tony Blackburn, when he features the fifties and sixties.

Yes, I find the MW reception for Gold (if you can tolerate the constant advertising) is pretty good too. As well as a regular playlist, there are also request shows when anything can be featured.

Ian / Noel

I applaud your efforts to spread the Shadows name, but I believe it only keeps it alive for those of us of certain years.

As far as converting the masses it's about as likely as converting your average Iranian to Judaism.

Yes it still gets played but then so does Glen Miller and Beethoven.

Don't get me wrong I like hearing the odd track coming over the airways, but music like everything else moves on, most of us didn't like our Mum and Dad's music as youngsters, so why should this generation be turned on to their Grandparents music.

Mind you re the remarks about Lady Gaga, Bad Romance would be in my Desert Island discs, along with a bit of Knopfler and Moore.

Talking of Desert Islands what would you all take? My 8 would be:

Apache, Shads
Folsom Prison Blues, Johny Cash
Darling Pretty, Mark Knopfler
Still Got The Blues, Gary Moore
Wonderful Tonight, Clapton
Sweet Caroline, Neil Diamond
Bad Romance, Lady Gaga
Viva La Vida, Coldplay

Geoff, now you're misunderstanding me! I like and play Shadows' music a lot, but I'm absolutely not a disciple spreading the word, not even a proper fan in the way many here are (my knowledge of the history of the Shads is little more than that of the average musician). I'm simply saying that it's good to know it's not just me who enjoys sixties-style guitar instrumental music. And you're wrong about the generation thing. The enthusiastic comments I hear when doing charity gigs in public places come not just from folks of my generation but from youngsters and others right across the spectrum. I'm not saying they all recognise the tunes but they do tell me how much they like the music.

Mind you, I did a pub gig recently, and even though most of the people in that place were half my age and less, I still got quite a few requests for favourite Shads numbers.
