There's also the fact that holding a guitar, bass or otherwise gives you something to hide behind!!

I always wondered who played the piano part in "Let Me Be The One" on the studio recording. I have always assumed it was maybe Brian Bennett, because he also played piano on some tracks on the albums "Rockin' With Curly Leads" and "Tasty". Maybe it was someone in the featured orchestra, conducted by John Fiddy.

Long ago (around 2003) there has been a discussion on this site (which was still hosted by MSN at this time) about the Eurovision song contest. I was the first to suggest that countries like UK and France deliberatly managed not to win the contest, as the winning country must organise it the following year, which is very costly, and neither the BBC or France Television have a budget planned for that !

Listen to what Hank later said during the 2004 Final Tour : https://app.box.com/s/2ty3jz91q0g3txu7xiet
Either he read what I wrote, or he had the same idea !

That's the "Aubrey Beardsley" kit, isn't it?

Having read though the thread, I have come up with my own solution as to why Bruce, very well known as rhythm guitar, should mime with a bass guitar, rather than the relatively new and less well known new member (and yes I did know John Farrar was not bass guitar in the Shads line up)
Someone else on the thread said that he had assumed at first that John Farrah would become the bass player, and perhaps so many people at the time John joined also thought that, that they wanted to publicly underline the fact, before a huge audience, that he wasn't, and to have him very obviously not playing bass at the Eurovision would accomplish that.
Well, it's as good a theory as any :)

The winning entry (Ding A Dong, by the Dutch act "Teach-In") was actually a better song, less of an archetypal Eurovision boom-bang-bang song and harmonically more interesting than the UK entry.

And I am unanimous in that.
