At last somebody has posted the Shadows track "Maroc 7" on you-tube. This track is probably my favourite Shadows track of all time. What surprised me however is that the guy who uploaded it , described it as a"Cover from an earlier unknown band"
I had always assumed that with the possible exception of the movie soundtrack, this was the original version, so is he correct ?

Unless he is referring to this group of wandering minstrels, methinks he may be incorrect! ;)

Yeah, I love this track too and as far as I'm aware it was the official version released to tie-in with the film. I gather that it was played in the cinemas, prior to the film, and there was even a specially recorded spoken intro by the Shads themselves. I believe that messrs Marvin, Welch, Bennett and Rostill were originally invited to write the film's theme/score, but couldn't fit it in with their schedule, so recommended their friend Paul Ferris. I saw the film once on TV, many moons ago, and can remember nothing whatsoever about it other than I think it was a kind of James Bond spoof set in Morroco and starring Gene Barry.

I am still searching for the original single-sided demo single of "Maroc 7" with the spoken intro. A year or two ago, it was offered on eBay and I tried to win it, but the winning bid was well over 100 hundred Pounds and it went to someone else.
Many years ago, I was searching through my father's Shadows record collection and discovered that the intro version of "Maroc 7" was featured on the 1969 Dutch compilation LP "The Best Of The Shadows". It has since appeared as two separate tracks (the mono intro combined with the stereo mix of "Maroc 7") on the 1997 Australian compilation CD "30 All Time Greatest Hits" and the 2001 French digi-pak CD "Jigsaw".

This is one of my favourites too. In fact I started learning it a few days ago - but have a long way to go before I can play it to tempo - and even longer to get it sounding smooth.

I'm not too sure I'm playing the chords at the beginning correctly either. Once I've learnt it a bit better I'll find a nice tone for it on the Strat and with Charlie Hall's patches the other day it sounded pretty good.

The live version is great too and I've watched it a number of times :)

Best wishes

I have a copy of the single sided promo (Columbia PSRS 308) and it is different from the Dutch vinyl album version and any CD versions.

The guitar intro and the end of the dialogue overlap for a few seconds, there is no echo at all throughout the dialogue and of course it
is in mono. Just in case any trainspotters read this. I have an mp3 rip if anyone is interested.

Best wishes

One of the most exciting moments in my record collecting life was finding a copy of Talking Maroc 7 at Gerol's Rescord store in Leeds indoor market in 1985 for £2.50!! "Would you all put down your ice creams and listen...!!"
