In a similar vein, I've got a book somewhere with a pic of Chuck Berry on stage......playing a Stratocaster!

I certainly agree that for live playing, having all those separate knobs in the Gibson style layout is NOT as good as the simple Fender control layouts as on Strats, Teles, Jazzmasters etc- and the Les Pauls are bloody heavy too..

I've never had difficulty with the control layout of a typical Gibson guitar (two volume, two tone, one switch).

Anyone having difficulty with it could have it amended to (say) one volume and two tones, quite easily. Or even three volumes (one for each pickup and a master) plus one tone control.

I meant that when singing, and playing lead and rhythm often simultaneously on a live gig, the simple overall master volume and tone are more convenient and easier to control 'on the fly' , as the saying goes..

I have a '335- alike' guitar (which also has two coil tap switches- a grand total of four knobs and three switches for two pickups...) which I have used recently on a couple of gigs, but I must admit I lost patience with it, and I've gone back to the Strat and Tele types.

My double cutaway Les Paul Junior is very heavy, but very easy with one volume, one tone for one pickup!
