Jimmy Frost!! He was the manager of the Burns Store at Centre Point in the late 60's. He was a really nice guy and arranged for me and my friends to see Hank at the Palladium on the day Bruce left in 1968. In those days people bought stuff on Hire Purchase and paid their money to the store. Brian Bennett told me a story that Jimmy used to go and put the money on the horses and if they won he'd put it back!!

Good memories

Was that the day which was decribed in "The Story Of The Shadows" (or was it Bruce's autobiography?), on which Hank came to the venue just five minutes before the show and John being angry at him for it?

No mate.

That was the consequence of that. That was earlier the same year at Eccles Talk of the North. Bruce wasn't happy and after that they agreed to finish at the end of the year. The Palladium date was, I think, December 7th 1968

Even though Bruce left at the end of 1968 they did continue for a month or two as they recorded two tracks for a planned film themes album but it was never finished then Hank announced he was launching a solo career although Rostill wanted the band to continue.

Mention of John Rostill reminds me that Tuesday (26th) is the 40th anniversary of his death.

Always remembered by many.

The Story Of The Shadows by Mike Read
So on 19th December 1968 the line-up of Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch, Brian Bennett and John Rostill, one of the world’s most famous groups, played together for the very last time on stage at the London Palladium behind the guy who they’d first met in a Soho tailor’s in 1958 being measured for a lurid pink jacket.
As the final curtain came down the rest of the lads presented Bruce with a clock that told the time in differnt countries all over the world. A world which had been taken by storm over the last ten years by a group who bowed out on stage of Britain’s most famous theatre.

I wonder if Bruce still has that clock?
