Shadows concert tour 1984

Postby UlrichS » 03 Dec 2013, 17:05

Hi all,

In - mainly - August 1984 the Shadows did a UK tour with also Jeff Stevenson and Savoir Faire in the program.

To my knowledge the set list was: Riders In The Sky / Foot Tapper / Atlantis / Time Is Tight / Theme From The Deer Hunter (Cavatina) / Shadoogie / The Day I Met Marie (v) [with a false start at Brighton on 24. August] / Summer Holiday (v) / Equinoxe (part V) / Chariots Of Fire / Wonderful Land / Let It Be Me / Little ‘B’ / Don’t Cry For Me Argentina / Apache / F.B.I.

As the set list is rather short it might be correct that two concerts were played each day. At least for Hull I got 18.00 and 20.45. Can anyone confirm this?

I think I have found out the dates and towns, but only some of the venues. It would be great if I could get the missing venues and/or any corrections/additions.

30./31.07.1984 Dartford (Orchard)
01.08.1984 Clacton
02./03./04.08.1984 Hastings (White Rock Pavilion)
05.08.1984 Portsmouth
06./07.08.1984 Poole
09./10./11.08.1984 Margate (Winter Gardens)
12.08.1984 Folkestone
14.08.1984 Hull – 18.00 & 20.45
15.08.1984 Skegness
16./17./18.08.1984
19.08.1984 Blackpool
21./22./23.08.1984 Southend
24./25.08.1984 Brighton (The Dome)
26.08.1984 Sandown I.O.W.
27./28.08.1984 Poole
30.08.1984 Jersey
31.08.1984 Guernsey
02.09.1984 Great Yarmouth

Many thanks in advance for any help.

I can confirm that this was a "two-house" tour.

I saw the shows at Dartford, Chatham and Margate.

The Chatham concert was towards the end of the tour and the venue was what was then called the Central Hall and is now called the Central Theatre.

I was sure that I went to see the Shads in North Devon that year, I was so disappointed in the echoes.
Am I wrong ?

It seems rather strange that, apart from Blackpool, Hull and Skegness, all those venues are in the south/south east of England leaving large areas of the UK uncovered.

Saturday 28th July 1984 at the Cornwall Coliseum. I was there that night. They did two nights there that year if I remember but I don't know now if it was the night before or after the 28th?

Ha! It reminds me of the chap who wanted to go round the world by balloon. He never managed to complete the trip because he insisted on going home for his tea every night.

Cheers.

Or was it maybe the smaller frequency range of the sound of the radiotransmitters on Hank and Bruce's guitars? Or did they use normal guitar leads?

If I remember correctly, the switch to radio links for the guitars was made in 1983, the same year that the Mesa Boogie amps were adopted.
