amazon prime warning

hi all bit off topic but thought you should all be made aware of this.
i use amazon for books and cds. and about a year ago i brought my daughter a kindle fire.
now appox one year later just checking my bank statement i noticed £49 taken by amazon prime.
i hadnt brought anything so checked it out, apparently when i brought the kindle i joined amazon prime, and in the very small print they have told me i agreed to pay them £49 after one year.
i never new anything about this, so i contacted them and they refunded the money with no argument at all.
now to refund as quick as that with no argument at all must mean this is a bit sneaky to say the least.
i googled it and there are loads people got caught the same way so just a warning. peter

I've used Prime in the past, but made a note to cancel before the time for payment came around. I actually find the Super Saver Free Delivery is often just as quick as the paid-for option.

hi graham and noel the option to use prime is there and i should have just been more aware of the details. noel like you i have always had great postal service without prime from amazon. and hands up this was my own fault but still a bit sneaky. amazon is a great place to shop without them resorting to this kind of thing. peter

Thanks for that. I bought a Kindle Fire HD last Christmas. The credit card payment for the purchase was debited on 2nd December 2012. I've checked an up-to-date statement on line and nothing has gone through for Prime. I'll keep checking over the next couple of weeks.

Having watched the Panorama programme, I've made the decision to only use Amazon as a last resort..............I was disgusted by the way that Amazon treated their robots
(sorry, staff!).

It maakes you wonder! Why not pay a few bob more and shop local - once those shops have gone Amazon will have more of a monopoly!

Hi Pete, exactly the same thing happened to me. They refunded the money ok but when I rang up again to complain about their sharp practices the operator, just put the phone down on me. I've not used Amazon since and won't ever again.....
