Yes MW & F were superb...and nothing like The Shadows, nor were 'Marvin & Farrar' either !

BUT the Marvin-Farrar-Welch-Bennett with Alan Tarney/Dave Richmond on bass Shadows of 1973-1977 WERE very much like The Shadows, as 'Rockin With Curly Leads, Specs Appeal', 'Live in Paris' & 'Tasty' albums proved.

while vocally The 1973-77 era Shadows WERE like M, W, & F...possibly due to them having the same three vocalists, even if the material was more 'Pop/Rock' orientated as compared to the 'Folk/Rock' sound of M W & F. and then Marvin & Farrar.

I live in hope that we may one day see a Marvin, Welch and Farrar reunion!!! (With Brian Bennett on drums, Dave Richmond on bass and Big Al on keyboards!).

By the way, my favourite Shadows cover is...
