RIP Phil Everly

Postby John Boyd » 04 Jan 2014, 04:16

I've just heard the sad news on the radio that Phil Everly has died in California aged 74.
In my opinion the Everly Brothers were responsible for some of the most enduring pop records
of the late 50's and 60''s. An inspiration to many, The Shadows and Beatles to name a couple.
R.I.P. Phil

Sad news indeed, I was always a big fan of the Everley Brothers and was very privileged to get to meet and know them when we were at Batley Variety Club together in the early seventies.

Thanks for the fantastic music and memories and RIP Phil.

Hi All

As one half of a close harmony duo I was saddened to see this morning that Phil Everly has died.

A great loss to music. So many have followed them but few have equaled their unique sound.

Yes sad news indeed.

They recorded so many memorable hits and their vocal harmony was instantly recognisable.

Why do we need a second topic on this subject? I would merge the other one with this but don't seem to be able to do it.

(I actually found three threads, one in General, one in The Lounge and one in People. I've moved them all onto the same board and merged them here. Iain)

Another musical hero has gone but not his legacy to us all.

The Everly Brothers harmonies were sublime. Never the simplest harmonies either; they could take you to ecstasy and keep you there.

Their Version of "Why Worry" with Mark Knopfler and Chet Atkins was just wonderful.

So long Phil and, in the words of Abba, Thank You For The Music.

A tremendous influence on the Shadows, particularly in the early days. In fact Phil and Don influenced everybody. Spot-on harmonies, memorable songs. Rest in peace Phil.
