You Tube guitarist

Postby apachepete » 14 Jan 2014, 13:32

Hi All

I'm sure most of you have seen (springer16900) on YouTube with his Superb Shads sound, and reading up he doesn't use Hardware other than Laptop and Ac 30. He's using VST Host and downloading his Echo,Reverb, etc as plugins.

Just wondering has anybody else tried his method, or like me using the usual Hardware echo reverb mixer computer.

Hi Peter

Both Christian and Didier were extremely helpful when I took an interest in this, basically he is going into the computer with an audio interface using VST plugins and then going out via the interface to an AC30.

The thing that truly amazed me was the way he did his virtual band, with members co-ordinating with one another over the internet.

Regards

Hi Peter

No I didn't, there were various reasons, the main one being I couldn't see how to record back to the computer without some pretty tricky configuration!

Christian as far as know is using a set of free PC plugins too, running through a Mac with different ones is almost certainly going to give different results. Perhaps not impossible, but made the effort questionable, he does get an excellent sound though!

Christian sometimes comes on the site and Didier is very knowledgeable, if either one reads this they may come back with some more information for you.

His name is Christian Boileau, he lives in Antibes on the French Riviera, and he is a member of our French Shadows forum. He has done a lot of experiments with VST (mostly free ones). He manages a VST board on this french forum and wrote a tutorial on how to use them, but unfortunatly, it's in french only. I thought about translating it into engligh, but the task is too huge !
Some members of the french forum use VST using Christian's solutions with good results, including when playing live at meetings.

Christian is not using a Mac, but a Windows PC.

Been doing it for years. People need a physical toy for which they pay accordingly. Crazy really.

Hi all

Many thanks for all your replys,Yes I found the Tutorial on Cristians site, and yes it's in French but I kinda got the idea. So had a Go downloading Vst from everywhere that's free,But after a whole day I can't install Vst into the Host, but enjoying the challenge. My laptop is Windows 8.1 so maybe that's the reason. Really clever guy this Cristian to have found out how to do all this and, his guitar playing is excellent. Just maybe it might be translated into English one day, in the meanwhile I take my hat off to him.... For me it's back to the hardware..........

Using VSTs the way Christian does needs some good knowledge of Windows management and software installation. You have to be tech minded. It's not for those who just want to be told which button they have to press on a box to get "that sound".

I read on our French Shadows forum that several members successfully used VSTs as Christian indicated with Windows 8, I don't know with the new Windows 8.1.
An important recommendation is to use a dedicated PC and to remove all other real time softwares.
