I saw that, never saw it first time around. Was the bassist a stand in from another band? Or should I know him?!

A really good episode. I've been watching them since they started with the 1976 ones. I really enjoy the real variation of acts, many of them basically novelty turns.

Its brilliant seeing the old fashions from when I was a nipper. I also like seeing acts I've never seen or heard before. That Steve Allen bloke must be well miffed that that song did nothing but got to number 1 later that year by Fern Kinney. Unless he wrote it of course.

The late George Ford on bass and Alan Hawkshaw playing a keyboard obviously intended for a much smaller person...

Haven't seen tha particular clip before.

It was 'Argentina'.

Some of the audience were holding white roses as per the pic sleeve on the single...

Blimey - that brought back memories!!! I remember watching that the first time round in January 1979!!!! Those were the days...

Yes, it was GEORGE FORD on the bass and ALAN HAWKSHAW on the keyboard.

I noticed that Brian had his small timpani drum on stage, but didn't appear to use it.

I agree that Alan seemed hunched over the keyboard! Mind you, he is over six foot and they don't call him 'Big Al' for nothing!!!!! :D

Surely, the bass player is Mo Foster, because when I saw the Shadows at Bristol's Colston Hall in March 77, George Ford was on bass and he was black!
Or was he in disguise on TOTP?

The bass player on last night's show was George Ford; the bass player on the clip above was Mo Foster - different bassist, different clip, different song!

I'd be surprised if you saw George Ford with them in March 1977 as the 20 Golden Dates tour was in May and the bass player was Alan Jones... GF's oonly stage appearances were the Spring 1980 European tour, as far as I know.

I am sure that the Colston Hall show was in March 77, because I went to the show while my wife was in hospital following the birth of our eldest daughter, so it had to be within a day or two of 14th March. Also, I wondered who the black bass player was.........certainly not Alan Jones.
