Deleting posts

I tried deleting a couple of posts & was unable to do this.
I'm sure we could delete our own posts before the "upgrade"

Anybody throw any light on this ........ David ?

I believe you can only delete a post if no one has replied. If you want to delete a post where someone has replied, go into 'edit' and backspace all content out, but leave a 'full stop' as in . The post will see this as an edit, hth.

tried that Alan but the post remains, (with only a "full stop" as content) & of course the title remains as well.

Looks like a "mod only" action

Look what I did to my earlier post, it's gone other than the full stop, so my suggestion works. This is what the post said before I edited it,

ps you'll only have a title if you started the post and as you say, only a moderator can remove that.

That's the result I got also, as we have both said now, only the full stop remains but also the title

Come to think of it I think it was only unanswered posts that could be completely deleted previously.

Seems a bit odd though, I think you should be able to delete your own posts without having to resort to "editing".

Just part of forum life I imagine

I have checked with Bob our Site Administrator and he confirms that Alan's advice is correct. That's all the software allows members to do, although the Moderators can fully delete posts on request. I've no idea why it's that way!

I'm sure it's to stop people posting something malicious, causing others to react, and then mischievously deleting their original post so they aren't seen to be involved. I actually think it's a good thing that you can't completely remove your posts after people have responded, for that reason.

You can't do without an edit function of course & this way retains control by "admin"
