I recall the song that Phil and Cliff recorded in Feb 1983, "She Means Nothing To Me". I have always liked this number, and wondered if Phil played guitar on this track.

Kindest regards
Christopher

Hi Christopher

"She Means Nothing to Me" is on Cliff Richard "Private Collection", great number!

The guitarists on the She Means Nothing to Me session were Mark Knopfler, John David, Billy Bremner, Stuart Colman, and Mickey Gee. The session actually took place on October 5, 1982, and one other Phil/Cliff duet was also laid down -- I'll Mend Your Broken Heart.

I remember Billy Bremner as the lead guitarist in the London pub-band The Aristocats, circa 1972. I was playing in another group on the same North London circuit.

I found this on YouTube - it precedes the Everly Brothers Reunion Tour. Phil refers to recording a duet with Cliff which inevitably would be "She Means Nothing to Me" and he says some nice things about Cliff. Phil was a very gracious man, I think. As much as I love Cliff, I think that Phil might be considered the bigger star and so he didn't have to say anything nice about Cliff if he didn't want to. Class act. RIP.

Shadows fans are known to analyse equipment on stage (trainspotters) more than fans of other artists. One thing I had always noticed with The Everlys since their comeback in the 80s, having seen them live twice and on TV is that only Don's guitar was plugged in? It could be seen clearly, Don had a chrome jack plug plugged into the tail end strap button socket while Phil with an identical Gibson didn't have anything plugged in. You could see him playing the chords but he wouldn't have been heard.
Don't know why this was unless two acoustics overloaded the sound?
I have posted this question before on various sites but no one seems to know the reason?
