I saw Gary US Bonds at the Iridium Club in New York a couple of years ago. He was working with his own group, the Roadhouse Rockers, and they (and he) were brilliant. With a British band on tour in the UK, he was struggling.

Great concert last night. The show ran for 3.5 hours all together with a big cast including Bill Wyman and Gary Brooker who was great and of course The Shads minus one. I could have done without Mike Berry and Shakin Stevens who were both poor and Joe Brown who was really naff, all three just not in the same class as the rest. Hard for the sound man with all those different acts. Before the show we were outside a restaurant in Sloane Square looking at the menu which was far too expensive for us and then spotted through the window Warren Bennet and Brian Goode. When he came out my wife asked him if Hank was playing tonight. and he said he's in Australia working on a new album. He said it will be a regular Marvin album with covers and new stuff. Definitely not gypsey jazz. Released here in a few months time. Good news I think.

Absolutely, everybody has to not like something. I saw Mike many times in 1986 when he was playing in Andy Roberts' "Irma & the Squirmers" without Melanie Harrold.

I think Joe Brown is a National Treasure but nice work on the Marvin new album scoop!
