The Hunters: I played four of their tunes with The Stingrays at last year's Pipeline...

Dave Sampson originated from the same neck of the woods as Cliff, namely Cheshunt.

The back of the sleeve of the 1961 LP, The Hunters Play The Big Hits (Fontana TFL 5140)...

Were they the same Hunters who recorded Teen Scene? First instrumental I ever learned.

The same! It's the final track on side 1 of the LP.

The original 1960 issue of Teen Scene featured an overdubbed wordless male chorus which, to my mind, was a quite unnecessary addition to a great rocking sound. A reissued version on the 1993 CD compilation British Beat Before The Beatles, Vol.5 (1960) is undubbed with, interestingly, the echo removed from the lead guitar part. More recently, an undubbed stereo mix turned up on the soundtrack of the 2009 film An Education.
