Jet and The Crickettes

With the Hazlitt Theatre now behind us and another great audience that was over double the numbers we had at The Camberley we are turning our attention to the 19th July at The Kenton Theatre Henley on Thames when our concert will be a fund raiser for THE JET HARRIS MEMORIAL FUND that supports cancer research. After the cost of the venue is covered every single penny will go to Jet's fund. The Crickettes are playing for free and paying all our own expenses plus I will donate 25 of my cds to be sold at the event for the fund. Bob Dore the very best sound engineer for this music is donating his services and PA making sure we have a balance that is simply perfect. The Kenton holds about 300 and it would be great to fill it and raise lots of money for Jets fund. One person contacted us to say he could not make the concert but would be purchasing a £15 ticket to support the fund. That is wonderful but we want to see the place full also. When I was a kid Jet was very supportive of me. He asked me to join him on a duet called "HERE I STAND" a simple but lovely tune that is now played by fans all over the world. Jet I'm sure would be pleased that The Crickettes are also encouraging kids to listen to and enjoy the music that he together with Hank Bruce and Tony introduced to the UK all those years ago. We are therefore continuing to offer a FREE TICKET to any under sixteen year old to any of our concerts if they come with a full paying adult. Last night and last week we had a few kids along mainly girls who played the guitar. If you can book early so we can feel confident that we will pack the place and raise lots of money to pass over to Audrey Knapp and Janet for Jets Fund it would be good. We promise you a great night for your £15 ticket.

Pleased to hear that Jet encouraged Zoe all those years ago and that now, in turn, the Crickettes are repaying the debt AND encouraging the younger musicians out there - sadly I fear that I cannot honestly try to take advantage of the 'under 16' offer as it's been a while since I was in that age bracket! And I don't know anyone who's under 16 either.

I've done my best the give the band a plug in a letter published in the latest issue of Classic Rock - sadly it's sealed in a larger outer card envelope so you'll have to buy it to read it! I'm pleased the band got a mention as my letter was edited slightly and various others that I mentioned were left out (sorry Linda McDonald of Phantom Blue and the Iron Maidens and Denise Dufort of Girlschool ! I'll now check my original and see that I hadn't mentioned them after all!!!).

By the way, a year or so ago I played a few of your 'Girls with Guitars' tracks on my radio show 'Girls Rock' - now defunct I'm sorry to say. It was good fun, mostly Girlschool, The Runaways, Phantom Blue, Suzi Quatro, Avril, Kittie, etc... Sadly, I was never able to slot a Shadows number in there!!!

Brilliant! Thanks Zoe - I thought no one listened to it apart from myself! Yes, I remember playing a couple of the tracks from the CD near the end of the show. I've still got MOST of the shows recorded, just in case I get tired and need something to wake me up!!! I only stopped doing it really because I ran out of stuff to play and didn't want to repeat myself too much!!! Honest.

Have you ever thought of an instrumental guitar radio show. There use to be one on San Palo FM in Brazil on a Tuesday morning They played The Ventures The Shadows Nokie solo albums Hank sole albums and the only two I had at the time Zoe With Love and Abba Guitabba. They had lots of phone ins about me and I had quite a fan following in Brazil as a result. I was 14 at the time. Radio in the UK simple do not play instrumentals. You could include the likes of Jeff Beck The Rapiers and so many more like Mason Williams. I could fix you up with Mason cds and my collection. We may even be able to get a live version of The Crickettes to you. Jet made some great cds also and The Jet Harris Memorial Fund could be mentioned as a source for these. I have contacts with The Ventures and The Spotnicks and Art Greenhaw who has just recorded Nokie and could get them to send you something over.

This is the sort of show BBC Radio 2 should put out and who knows you could be the one to prove just how good it would be. All of us who love and play instrumental guitar music should get behind such a show.
