Inspired so many players, he was what every young guy wanted to be, good looking, ultra cool and a gifted guitar player, I still think there should be a movie about his rags to riches to rags to re-invention story, I think it would be the ultimate rock n roll movie.
I am only glad I got to see him on the Marty Wilde tour before he left us, but I wish I could have seen him in his hey-day with the Shads, my Uncle saw him at the Colston Hall in Bristol with Cliff and the Shads, and he told me that when the show started the lights dimmed and suddenly you heard Jet playing the opening chords of "Dynamite" then the spotlight fell on his blond locks and the girls started screaming, before Cliff could even be heard, boy was I born too late.......

Yes, it would prove a fascinating feature, especially to all engrossed in the early, formative days of rock-n-roll in the UK. Which actors, I wonder, should play the key protagonists in the great story?

We will all miss Jet, now and forever, a great character, a great musician and bass legend like no other. It is dangerous to meet your heroes, you can so easily be disappointed, but that was not the case with Jet, - he was incredibly warm and friendly.

There isn't a day goes by that I don't think of Jet. I have a sunburst bass VI on a stand facing me in my living room and I like it that way. I just wish the feeling would return to my fingers thus allowing me to play it. ;)

I just wanted to endorse the sentiments expressed.

I see Jet everyday when I go into my lounge room and look at the framed print of the portrait done so well by John Skelton.

Jet left us all with a wonderful legacy of great music and magic bass playing.

Cheers, Ian.

Apart from his great inventive bass playing, I really like his dry sense of humour on stage. I have really fond memories of the few times I have met him personally. A really friendly and modest guy.

Jet in hounslow?

Postby humdrum » 18 Mar 2014, 01:58

Talking of Jet, did he used to live in the hounslow area of west London in the 1970s? I am sure i saw him on several occasions but with BLACK hair & long sideburns. I also pulled up alongside Bruce Welch in Hayes Middx once. He was in an open topped Rolls Royce.........HE DIDN'T RECOGNISE ME THOUGH!

Loved his dry on stage humour - one of his jokes that I will always remember was
" I've just found out I'm dyslexic - I got an invite to a toga party ,and went as a goat!"
