'Funky' Apache...

Postby GoldenStreet » 24 Mar 2014, 13:01

Overheard on Friday evening via a local pub's background music, the Incredible Bongo Band's 1970's rendition illustrates the tune's genuine versatility...

I think it was the IBB version of Apache which was sampled by the Sugarhill Gang. The Shadows were indirectly responsible for rap... If they's known that in 1960. they'd probably never have recored the tune!

Sounds awful. Just shows you that interpretation is everything. Apache is not the most tuneful melody in the world but with the right and appropriate interpretation it was great. You have a large and varied spectrum of colour and sound with attitude and you squeeze and compress all the life out of it until you are left with a loud brash and featureless landscape of rude and vulgar sounding horns- not my cup of tea, although I love Glen Miller- he had something.

Graham

Two of my children attended a concert by Muse at the Paris "Parc des Princes" stadium during their 2007 tour. The next day they told me : "guess what dad, they played Man of Mystery !"
By curiosity I had a look at a french Muse forum to see what the french fans had to say about this, and there I read that Muse had played a new instrumental ! :D
