Me too! I saw the TV serial and Hammer film. Scared me to death. The name 'hob' meaning the Devil really spooked me at the time...

During one of the times over the last 45 years of married life one the houses we went to look at was in our local village of Essington, Staffs.
The street was called 'Hobnock Road' and it was with the greatest of reluctance that I would even go look at it in spite of my wife's urgings that it was a 'nice house'.

Needless to say we didn't buy it and even now there's a creepy feeling every time I drive down this road that can only have come from having watched Quatermass and the Pit from behind the cushions in 1958 at the tender age of 10.

The Goons' topical sendup of Quatermass and the Pit was The Scarlet Capsule, with some fantastic funny stuff in the script...a classic.

Whilst the old '50's TV shows of the Quatermass series were frightening, they didn't scare me as much as a similar science fiction horror TV serial also broadcast at about that same time, called 'The Trollenberg Terror'- something to do with a terrible beast that attacked people in a Alpine ski lift funicular railway...

Back on topic, didn't the Shadows complain when their record was originally going to be released with Quatermasster's Stores as the A side, with Apache as the B side, because they thought Quatermassters Stores made them sound like Johnny and the Hurricanes (who had Red River Rock out back then with a similar melody and arrangement?

The 1958 film version of The Trollenberg Terror was another of those British productions to feature a 'guest' American, namely Forrest Tucker.

Legend is supposed to have it that Norrie's daughter(s) decided that Apache should be the A side, so, thankfully, that was that!
