Something of interest to share.

Having recently put this on Facebook thought some members here would like to see Dad's Echomatic 1,
hopefully now that Dads health is improving you will be able to hear it in the near future.

I'm amazed at how few responses this has received. Do people not realise just what they're looking at?

The missing link. The Holy Grail.

As far as I'm aware, this is the only Echomatic 1 that has been seen since the sixties. A handful of shots (perhaps three) of this very unit have been published in the past but, otherwise, no-one's ever seen a photograph of one! The only other pictures we have are ones of Hank's own Model J and Model F Echomatic 1 machines. There is one Echomatic 2 still in existence that we know of, and it has needed lengthy restoration (which has, by all accounts, been done superbly). No other wheel/drum echoes have surfaced. This Echomatic is in original, near-mint condition (it looks new!) and needs very little technical work before it is ready to be heard by audiences.

When Phil first introduced me to this echo my heart was hammering. It didn't feel real. It was by far the biggest "pinch me" moment I've ever had. Every time I see it I still can't believe my eyes.

For Shadows guitarists this is it. This is the biggest discovery of all time. The stuff of dreams.

Well, not all. ;)

It might be a little while before the work is finished, but hearing and using the wheel Meazzi has changed my idea of what a Shadows echo is and should be. It sounds like no echo I've ever heard. But, as soon as I heard it, it just sounded right.

The more I learn, the more I realise how clever those Italian designers and technicians were.

I'm still dumbstruck by what has been uncovered. Not only do we have the Holy Grail in our hands, but it's giving up more secrets than I expected. These are the most exciting times I've ever enjoyed as a Shadows enthusiast.
